WELDING-TECHNOLOGIES

The development goal is an overall concept for the use of welding-technologies in the metallic aircraft manufacturing.

Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is currently being further developed to the connection of fuselage panels or for the pre-assembly of sheet metal of various thickness (Tailored Welded Blancs).

One content is the investigation of the process parameter for the FSW welding of various materials.

Essential is to consider the entire process chain from the preparation of the weld seam, the FSW process itself to the final surface protection. In addition the production of demonstrators in cooperation with AIRBUS is carried out as well as the planning of industrialisation concepts for a potential series application. Laser Beam Welding (LBW) is one of the series long-standing used technology in connection of stringers and skin.
